Hudson, America - Trailer
“for it is often the way we look at other people that imprisons them within their own narrowest allegiances. And it is also the way we look at them that may set them free”
- Amin Maalouf
In the Name of Identity
As major shifts began to rattle the political landscape in 2016, filmmakers Zuzka Kurtz and Geoffrey Hug began documenting a group of first-generation Bangladeshi students as they graduate high school and enter college, branching out to universities around the northeast. Since its inception, this film has become a significant diary of events as experienced by six Muslim teenagers and their upstate NY community. The film addresses their struggles with xenophobia, arranged marriage, hijab, young love, the pressures involved with leaving their community, and the divisive politics of the years 2016 - 2022.
